What a weird game, isn't it ? Fascinating alien look and intricate scenario (that I can only guess, as I was unable to figure out anything beyond the first few steps). Not to mention a 22 page humorous short story, which was quite unusual back then.

I've played both the C64 and Amiga version and the least I can say is that the C64 version is a poor graphic rendition of the original Atari ST graphics. Have a look at the Amiga screen. In comparison, the image below looks washed out and indistinct.

I have deliberately enhanced the contrast in my picture to make the most out of the poor C64 palette. I have also concentrated on the strong aspects, like the eye-shaped buttons, the brain-like main console and the ovoid birth ramp. Using regular dithering every now and then gives a smoother look to the whole thing.

I'm quite pleased with the results.

The Pictures

On the left the original C64 screen, and on the right my own version.

Technical Bit

The original picture is in full muticolor mode although it only uses 3 colors. I have only changed the light cyan parts to white (both are valid main colors).

The Oorxx (the thing with a heart-shaped forehead on the right) does not contain any black parts at all. I have respected this, although I can't figure out the reason. I don't think it's made of multicolor sprites, but even then all you'd have to do would be to prepare a black background behind it, so that transparent parts would look black.
