t first, I had some trouble drawing on my PC. It was lacking a decent drawing program actually. There are a few pictures here that were made using a poor MS-DOS version of Deluxe Paint 2 (which was a must on the Amiga, but not so hot on PC). It only allowed me to use standard VGA modes, which were a real pain.

Then came Paint Shop Pro and Adobe Photoshop. I don't really feel comfortable with the latter, but it has many undeniable advantages.

Lately I often scan a sketch that I did on paper and finish it on my Mac.

			Beast Cliffs

		Date: 04-June-2021 Size: 320x640, 28 KB Nostalgia for the Amiga era of pixel art and the urge to create a tribute to the Shadow of the Beast style mountains ended up producing this. The twin fortresses were inspired by a comic book series named El Mercenario. There are a lot of small details to find. Here is a double sized copy to help you find them. The picture uses 28 colors (which are not compatible with the Amiga). Antialiasing was done by hand. Dithering in the faraway mountains and sky was not.

		Date: 10-December-2011 Size: 1572x1288, 1.2 MB I've been recording some videos of me playing Minecraft. Someone made a witty comment about a creeper being adopted by spiders, so I simply had to draw it! Took me about 10 minutes to draft it. It was my first contact with The Gimp too.

			Guess who's coming for dinner

		Date: 24-June-2007 Size: 1545x1730, 336 KB Yeah, right, I know. And the Oscar for weird titles goes to... Took me about 3 hours and a half of coloring. Don't know what went ~~wrong~~ through my mind with that one.

			Totems on Mars

		Date: 18-March-2007 Size: 1500x1080, 140 KB I did this illustration for the Ben Bova novel named Mars.

			Fractal

		Date: 11-March-2007 Size: 603x1024, 296 KB The initial inspiration for this came from a Juan Gimenez illustration named Jupiter. I have no idea what the original picture represented, and I'm aware that his "thing" was rather technological than biological, but sometimes imagination flies way beyond the initial intention. This is supposed to represent a living, self-aware and intelligent creature. I have a pretty good idea of its body structure and I have described it in a blog entry one day (in French, sorry).

			Faery Hill

		Date: 14-May-2006 Size: 2464x2873, 1.01 MB Strange, really. I felt like drawing a giant tree on a sheet of paper, but I couldn't decide what to put beneath its roots. It took me several days to finally decide for a simple hill and forest. Then I couldn't figure out what colors would fit it best. After much thinking, I went for a night sky and put a light source at the very foot of the tree. And at the last minute, I added the funny flying sparkles and decided they were faeries! So much for the inner vision of the artist! :op Note that it can be printed on an A4 page without losing any detail.

			Indigo Hills

		Date: 24-September-2005 Size: 2436x654, 344 KB Another uninteresting scribble during a meeting. But with the help of Paint Shop Pro to add some (strange) colors and a few clouds, it became quite pleasing, don't you think?

			Spiral

		Date: 04-May-2005 Size: 2445x3360, 1.06 MB Now that's embarassing! I have no idea what this one represents, although I like it a lot. I just followed my instinct, grabbed a marker pen for the first time in several years, and drew a bunch of floating rocks. Note that it can be printed on an A4 page without losing any detail.

			Frying Pan

		Date: 06-November-2004 Size: 1270x1980, 1.43 MB Sketch drawn at work. This one took me totally by surprise, as the last time I had drawn something that pleased me was such a long time ago. Somehow I managed to introduce kind of a cartoon feel into it, don't you think? Note that the large version can be printed on an A5 page without losing too much detail.

			The Green Land

		Original size: 640x480, 256 colors This peaceful landscape makes me think of The Lord of the Rings. It was part of a screen saver that would show different weather in turn (night, sun, mist, rain, etc.).

			Takashi's Death

		Original size: 640x480, 16 colors This illustrates a dramatic episode of the Akira comic strip. Notice that the picture only contains 16 colors. All those lovely gradients involve a lot of manual dithering.

			City At Night

		Original size: 640x480, 16 colors This is Neo-Tokyo city, also from the Akira comic strip. Many people have asked me how all those little lights were made. Well, I drew them one at a time using a magnifying tool in Deluxe Paint 2. Nothing outstanding, really. Just a lot of time spent clicking. :o)
